At Christ Church Secondary, all Secondary 1 and 2 students go through the school’s Applied Learning Programme (ALP) in Health Science and Technology. Students pick up basic programming skills, learn to wire up a circuit and put together an electronic pulse sensor from scratch.
Ms Toh Minmin, a science teacher who helped to develop the programme, says that the idea is to get students to think of different ways to solve a problem.
The school hopes to get Alexandra Health System on board its ALP. A few ideas are being explored: providing short job attachments at the hospitals and getting the hospital staff to train students to be healthcare ambassadors.
