New measures are being enacted to safeguard the interests of students enrolled in private universities and institutions of higher learning. The comes on the heels of a recent spate of closures which has left many students stranded.
Last week, the Council for Private Education laid out several broad measures to achieve this aim.
Private schools that offer degrees or courses leading directly to degrees must first obtain a four-year EduTrust certification, a quality assurance award. Also, private education institutions that offer degree programmes will be required to take part in a yearly survey to track their graduate employment outcomes.
To ensure that new private education institutions are properly financed, a minimum paid-up capital of $100,000 will be required of them with immediate effect.
