The Singapore Management University (SMU) campus located at Bras Basah is being redeveloped to accommodate new study lounges and seminar rooms. This represents the first phase of a multi-year redevelopment project designed to boost seating capacity and meet greater demand for study spaces.
Total enrolment in SMU has grow to 9,300, including postgraduate students.
Previously, other initiatives undertaken to create more space for students included renovating the Li Ka Shing Library and leasing the former MPH Building to create a 24-hour learning space called SMU Labs.
In the second phase of the redevelopment project currently being undertaken, an open-air amphitheatre will be built at a location between the National Museum of Singapore and the Singapore Art Museum, and it will be used for open-air performances.
A co-curricular activity centre with a glass facade will also be created as a common space for students.
