In the latest Times Higher Education World Reputation Rankings, the National University of Singapore was placed 27th, one place lower than last year.
Nanyang Technological University remained in the 81 to 90 band.
The World Reputation Rankings are based on a survey of over 10,000 academics from 137 countries who had been asked to rate educational institutions based on excellence in research and teaching.
An NUS spokesman said, “We will actively pursue our long term strategy of building broad-based excellence across a comprehensive range of disciplines, especially those that are of strategic importance to Singapore.”
Earlier this year in March, NUS was named the top university in Asia in the Times Higher Education Asia University Rankings for the second consecutive year after it first overtook the University of Tokyo in 2016.
In the same ranking exercise, NTU dropped from joint-second in the rankings to fourth spot, having been overtaken by both Peking University and Tsinghua University.
