The Ministry of Education recently announced that new applied subjects targetting innovation, technology, business and the arts will be introduced into Singapore’s Secondary school curriculum.
Some of these subjects include electronics (for example, offered by the School of Science and Technology), computing (for example, offered by Commonwealth Secondary School), exercise and sports science (for example, offered by the Bowen Secondary School), and mobile robotics (for example, offered by St Andrew’s Secondary).
The new subjects will be taught by school teachers who have been specifically trained.
The Education Ministry said it works with faculty members from the universities, polytechnics and the Institute of Technical Education (ITE) to identify and develop these applied subjects to ensure they are aligned with similar courses offered at varsity level.
