The Yale Young Global Scholars-Singapore (YYGS-Singapore) Programme provides students a taste of the liberal arts curriculum through lectures and small group tutorials. Subjects offered include physics, music, history, mathematics and philosophy, to name but a few.
The programme is a joint initiative by Yale University and the National University of Singapore (NUS) and is run under the auspices of the Yale-NUS campus.
Formerly known as Ivy Scholars, the course is designed for academically strong students. It was first held at Yale’s New Haven campus 15 years ago, and has since expanded to include countries like China and Singapore.
There is a steadily growing demand in Asia, particularly Singapore, for liberal arts education. The programme gives students a sample of core liberal arts concepts, such as social sciences and physical sciences, through short lectures.
Students also learn essay-writing techniques, presentation and communication skills, and tips on applying for college.
