According to a recent survey conducted by STJobs, a portal for job advertisements, one in five local undergraduates expect their starting pay to be at least $4,000.
However, the current market rate for a holder of a Bachelor’s degree (without honours) is around $2,700.
On the flip side, 12 percent of respondents expected to receive less than $2,500 per month.
Those who felt they deserved a pay higher than the market average indicated that this was due to the fact they were graduating from a recognized university.
Also, 20 percent of fresh graduates had little idea about the usual starting pay of the job they are looking for.
